Tour plan, prices, notes
Day 1: Rome
Our tour will start from the heart of Rome, where you can find one of the biggest and oldest private buildings that belonged to the powerful and noble Colonna family. We will then move to the area of Castelli Romani to see in person two more majestic and impressive palaces, Villa Mondragone and Palazzo Rospigliosi, both full of precious frescoes, paintings, and mosaics. They also belonged to powerful and renowned families from Latium.
Meeting point in Roma Termini, entrance and tour of Palazzo Colonna, transfer to Villa Mondragone, entrance and guided tour of Villa Mondragone, transfer to Zagarolo, entrance and tour of Palazzo Rospigliosi, tour of the borgo of Zagarolo, dinner, and overnight.
Day 2: Paliano – Fumone – Montecassino
We will continue our tour heading to Ciociaria, a land characterized by many historic homes and ancient country residences. We will stop at the majestic palace of Paliano, the historical country residence of the Colonna family. We will head to Rocca di Fumone, an old strategic outpost over the whole valley of Sacco and the connecting road between Rome and Naples. Last, we will reach the renowned Abbey of Montecassino, the most ancient and popular dwelling of the Benedictine monks, a valuable complex exquisitely rebuilt after its destruction during World War II.
Breakfast, check out and transfer to Paliano, entrance and tour of Palazzo Colonna, lunch, transfer to Fumone, tour of Rocca and free tour of the borgo, transfer to Monteccasino, entrance and guided tour with workshop in the Montecassino Abbey, transfer to Cassino, dinner, and overnight.
Day 3: Gaeta
Your journey today takes you to the coast of Latium, first for a visit to the Palace of Gaeta that belonged to the powerful and noble Caetani family, and then to reach the 17th-century Torre in pietra Palace on the coast north to Rome. Here, we will enjoy a relaxing break to taste local typical products.
Breakfast, check out and transfer to Cisterna di Latina, entrance and tour of Palazzo Caetani, free tour and lunch, transfer to Torre in Pietra, entrance and tour of Castello di Torre in Pietra with tasting, transfer to Cerveteri, dinner, and overnight.
Day 4: Roccalvecce – Caprarola
Our tour will continue in Tuscia, the ancient Etruscan’s land. The imposing Costaguti castle was built right on the ruins of an old Etruscan settlement. It has a strategic position and dominates the neighbouring borgo and the surrounding countryside, which turned it into an excellent observation point. Then, we will move to the borgo of Caprarola, where the amazing palace that belonged to the noble Farnese family is located. It is one of the best examples of Mannerist-style dwelling, rich in famous frescoes and paintings.
