Tour plan, prices, notes
Day 1: Calcata – Sutri – Viterbo
From Rome we will reach Calcata, a small medieval borgo in Tuscia, which was built and isolated on a fragile tuff spur and preserved that magical atmosphere that will transport you back in time. Then, we will visit Sutri, an old medieval borgo, halfway between Rome and Viterbo. This borgo, too, is perched on a tuff rock and features a Roman amphitheatre carved out of tuff. Last, we will reach Viterbo, provincial capital of Tuscia and known as the “City of the Popes”, whose historic centre keeps its original medieval aspect almost intact.
Meeting point in Roma Termini, transfer to Calcata, lunch, guided tour of the borgo, transfer to Sutri, entrance and guided tour of the Roman amphitheatre and the medieval borgo, transfer to Viterbo, guided tour of the town, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Vitorchiano – Caprarola – Casperia
While remaining in Tuscia, we will visit Vitorchiano, an old and lovely medieval borgo, not far away from the provincial capital, characterized by its walls and “profferli”, outside staircases with an arcade underneath. Then, we will head to the borgo of Caprarola, set between the Cimini mountains and Lake Vico, where you can find the wonderful Palazzo Farnese that represents one of the best Mannerist-style architecture examples. After lunch, we will move to Casperia, a borgo in the heart of Sabina, considered as one of Italy’s most beautiful and ancient borgos, which was also quoted in Virgil’s Aeneid. We will stop here to enjoy an aperitivo with plenty of local flavours.

Day 3: Leonessa – Nemi
After a quick visit of Rieti, we will stay in the area and stop in Leonessa, a town located in the heart of the Appennines Latium, whose borgo is characterized by its medieval alleys. After lunch, we will head to Nemi, one of the most picturesque borgos of Castelli Romani. It became popular for its amazing view connected to the underlying lake, where remains of ancient Roman vessels were found. We will stop here to enjoy a relaxing sunset.
Breakfast, check out, short free tour of Rieti, transfer to Leonessa, visit of the Museo Civico and the borgo, lunch, transfer to Nemi, entrance and tour of the Museo Navi Romane (Roman Ship Museum), guided tour of the borgo. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Arpino – San Donato Val di Comino – Formia
Today, this tour will take you to Ciociaria, where we will stop in Arpino, one of the most ancient, culturally and artistically significant borgos of the province. After lunch, we will go to San Donato Val di Comino, a lovely medieval borgo perched at the foot of the mountains of the National Park of Abruzzo, Latium and Molise, where you will enjoy “Arco delle Origini” (the arch of Origins) and its Sanctuary. Then, we will move to Formia, a popular seaside town of the Pontine coast, full of monuments and historical buildings.
Breakfast, check out, transfer to Arpino, entrance and tour of the Mastroianni museum, lunch, transfer to San Donato Val Comino, guided tour of the borgo, transfer to Formia, guided tour of the borgo, dinner, and overnight.
Day 5: Fossanova – Priverno – Sermoneta
We will remain in the Pontine area and stop at the Fossanova Abbey, one of the first examples of Italian gothic style. We will also visit the nearby borgo of Priverno. Then, before coming back to Rome, we will head to Sermoneta, one of the most enchanting medieval borgos of Lower Latium, perched under the slopes of Lepini Mountains and completely surrounded by imposing walls, overlooked by the majestic Caetani Castle.
